Vintage wedding in Benahavis

As I sit here in the cold with a cup of tea, (yes it gets cold in Marbella too!) looking over Maressa and Stephens wedding photos its really warming my cockles. It was a beautiful sunny day in June when this sweet couple from Cork got married in Benahavis park followed by their reception at Gran Hotel Benahavis.
The setting for this wedding suited Maressa´s vintage themed wedding to a tee.  Maressa provided wooden hanging hearts as an alternative to a table plan which also doubled up as a favour for guests to keep.
This couple wanted to release sky lanterns during their drinks reception which is a definite no no in the mountains because of the fire risks, so they opted for the second best thing and guests were each given  a red balloon to release. From bunting, to vintage book centrepieces to the cake, this wedding oozed vintage.
I have seen lots of stunning wedding dresses this year, but Maressa´s wedding dress was my personal favourite this year :) No offence anyone!! They were all beautiful!!
Thanks to Kris McGuirk for capturing the day so well and Gorgeous Event Decoration for making it look just like the couple wanted.

Claire and Maurice Benahavis wedding

Yet again I have been in tears today reading a report Claire put on weddingsonline.  When I read these kind of comments, I feel 10ft tall! Im not a very confident person, so comments like Claire´s really boost my confidence.  Here is what Claire has said about her wedding day on

Well we’ve done it! After months of planning, hours searching on here and a very patient wedding planner we have finally tied the knot and it was the best day of my life! Everything went to plan, our guests have said it was the wedding of the century and myself and my husband…lol. Didn’t stop smiling all day.

I spent hours on here researching suppliers before we went so I wanted to do a recommendations post for the suppliers that we used to try and help others.

Ian Preston: We hired Ian after reading so many good reports about him and let me tell you none of them were wrong! We took the full day package without the swing set so he was there as our MC, tailored music for cocktail hour & dinner, introduced us on arrival, introduced all the speeches and was also our DJ.  From start to finish he was nothing but professional, he regularly made sure that we were happy with how things were going and was ensuring our guests were happy. I had been really worried throughout the planning process that with it being a small wedding (48 in total) that the dance floor would be empty – how wrong I was!!!! From the minute the music started the dance floor was nearly always full, people came up to me at the end of the night that said they don’t normally dance but they had that night. What can I say but that Ian in my opinion is worth his weight in gold!!! (

Lorraine – princess bride:  Lorraine did my hair, make up & nails. It was wonderful to see her arriving and she set about making sure I was nice and calm. She has such an easy gong nature and she just fitted in really well with everyone who was around that morning. She always comes with her music and docking station and she was kind enough to allow me to play my own playlist I had made for that morning, that really helped relax me. She did an amazing job of my hair and makeup, so many people commented on how natural and gorgeous it looked. She was also a lifesaver in reminding me to lift my flowers as we were just about to walk out without them as they had been in the fridge! Thanks Lorraine! (

Kerry our florist – kerry has a stall in La Canada  mall in Marbella and was recommended to us by our wedding planner and I can’t fault her, we planned what we wanted but I wasn’t exactly sure how they would turn out but I need not have worried, mine & the bridesmaids bouquet were gorgeous I was so disappointed that I wasn’t able to bring them home as we were heading straight off on honeymoon. We also had Kerry do buttonholes for the bridal party and flowers for the church, all of which were beautiful and very reasonably priced.

Kris McGuirk: Kris was our photographer and from the minute we met him way back in January we knew he was for us, he shoots in reportage style which suited us down to the ground as we really dont like posing for photos. Kris came to the villa and did all the prep shots before heading to the church to get all the guests arriving. You hardly even noticed he was there apart from a small click of his camera as we were getting ready and I really appreciated that. He was so calming and settling to have around and I don’t think we could have picked any better! I’ll never forget how I felt when he got me to look at myself in the mirror for the very first time, thanks Kris! If any of our guests shots are anything to go by, Kris’ will be amazing! (

Marbella video productions: Dougie & Paula were a pleasure to work with. We only met them in person the day before the wedding but they put us at ease straight away. I had spent quite a lot of time looking at Dougies work via their Facebook page and loved the style they shot in. We spent a lot of time humming & ahhing over whether to have a video and without even seeing it I can say that having them is a 100% best decision! Already there are bits of the day that I can’t wait to see as I can only partly remember them and I am sure there will be so much on there that we missed, my walking up the aisle,  peoples expressions, my dad/daughter dance and the speeches to name a few. They also make you a showreel that can be emailed to your guests who weren’t able to make it, which was a major selling point to me. Thanks guys!! (

Gran Hotel Benahavis: we held our wedding reception here and they were a pleasure to work with. Sandra their on site events manager was worked alongside our wedding planner from start to finish and everything went off smoothly. My only concern was the size of the reception room but all worked out amazingly when they told us that they could screen part of the room off. If you are looking at this hotel and are worried about the size of the room, don’t! Our guests were totally blown away by the location and I would totally recommend it. The food was amazing and everyone was very impressed.
I’ve left the best to last! Our AMAZING wedding planner.
Bella Weddings in Spain: Lisa has only been working on her own for just over a year but I can hand on my heart say that she will have an amazing future! When I say nothing is to much trouble I totally mean it. From the first email I sent her I just clicked, I had been emailing her and another planner at the same time but there was just something about Lisa and her personality that came across in those initial emails and I have no regrets at all in choosing her to help us with our big day. Lisa constantly strived to get us the best possible price for everything we were looking for and I have no doubts that she saved us her fee at least once over. She really came into her own though when we arrived in Spain, nothing was too much trouble, she was always at the end of the phone to not only help myself and h2b out but all our guests (some of which kept getting lost! Lol) she helped us when we had problems with the neighbours at our rental villa, helped call us taxis as we struggled a bit with the language, gave my mum and dad a lift home from our rehearsal and even picked up my flower girls non alcoholic champagne! I can’t speak highly enough of her and really urge any of you girlies out there still in the planning stage to get in touch. I for one am going to miss her and I never thought I would say that about someone who just started out as my wedding planner but she is no longer just that, she became my friend. Thanks for everything Lisa without you the day and days running up to it would never have been the same. xx (

I would also like to thank my ever faithful suppliers that helped me make Claire and Maurice´s wedding perfect. I couldnt do it without them.
The Gran Hotel Benahavis gets my first thank you. They were so professional to deal with. I have had nightmares with venues this year, but at this hotel, it was exactly as they said it would be. I will defo be recommending them to future couples.
Kris McGuirk as always was my right hand man. Professional and non invasive. I love working with Kris :)
It was my first time working with Dougie and Ian Preston I know I will DEFINATELY be working with them again in the future.
Lorraine from as always waved her magic wand and made Claire look a million dollars.
Little Lolas Cup Cakes for the cup cakes. Im gutted there was not one left for me, so they must have been good.
Kerry for flowers. As always she provided exactly what the client had asked for.  For me, I always feel slightly sick when the brides receives her flowers on the day, because we dont get to see them before the wedding day. Kerry always discusses in detail what the client wants, but at the back of my mind  I always think “OH please God let her like them” and they always do!

Lastly to Claire and Maurice for letting me in. xx
Cant wait to see Kris´ photos.

My Last Wedding of the Season

Last friday saw my last wedding of 2011, and it could not have been a nicer wedding to end the season with.
Claire and Maurice were married in Santo Cristo Church in Marbella at 4pm and then went onto the Gran Hotel Benahavis for their wedding reception.
Over the last 10 months or so, I have really got to know Claire. She is an amazing person and I have never seen a bride make so much effort with her wedding. She made every single thing herself, from Unity Candles to favours to childrens goody bags. Her color scheme was purple, and her reception looked amazing.  I so admire her for this.
I´m a huge romantic, and every wedding brings a lump to my throat, but I normally manage to control myself and maintain my dignity. However, at this wedding, I couldnt contain myself and I was a blubbering idiot standing in the corner hoping nobody would see me. Thankfully the only person to see me was Claire´s Mum who happened to be blubbering to, so we just hugged one another and blubbered together. I simply couldnt help it, Claire had been emotional all day, and I could soo feel the love between Claire and Maurice and her family. It was the father and daughter dance that set me off, but I think I would have to be made of stone not to have got emotional.
I feel so priviledged to have been part of Claire and Maurice´s wedding day, and I know we will stay in touch.
During the speeches, Claire gave me a present and a card that I just have to share with you. She put so much effort into everything, even my thank you card. I dont know where she had it made, but it is fantastic.
